PS20 “Are there any useful studies in psychology?”

Compatible with the national curriculum courses PSK1 and PSK2.
Students should be able to describe a range of psychological methods and to be able to consider the strengths and weaknesses (evaluate) and compare and contrast the methods and consider their practical and theoretical implications. Students should also be aware of the range and assumptions of approaches and perspectives in psychology and to be able to evaluate them and be aware of the issues and debates that structure psychological research and also to be able to evaluate them and to consider the moral and ethical implications of psychological research.
Keskeiset sisällöt: A revision of methods, approaches, important issues and debates with the help of some core studies. Students will practice to make comparisons and distinctions between a number of core studies as well as placing them within the broader context of general debates within psychology.
In particular students will focus on the usefulness of psychological findings, on methodological and ethical issues in psychological research, on the nature nurture debate in psychology and on the reliability and validity of longitudinal vs snapshot studies.

PS21 Psychology and abnormality “Who ́s craze, who ́s not?”

This is an advanced course of abnormal psychology and quite compatible with the national curriculum course PS4.
