Innovating for immigrant education
Eiran aikuislukio started innovating for immigrant education back in the early 1990s. Now we have the Three Path Program which offers the chance to learn Finnish while studying in English. The study paths are based on the balance between English and Finnish skills so each student can choose a path to higher education appropriate to skills. We have years of experience. The first intake for the pilot scheme offering matriculation exam in English was at our school in 1992. In 1999 we pioneered the AICE Diploma in Finland; in 2001 we invented First Steps in Finland which offered a lower secondary level education for immigrants, some of whom had no Finnish skills whatsoever. Innovation is essential in today’s changing world.
